The buzzing capital of Spain with its eclectic cultural scene can be accessed by plane that makes it landing at the Barajas Airport which is located fifteen kilometers or 9 miles from the center of the city. The airport is fast gaining recognition as an international arena that is adept at handling more than 25 million passengers a year.
From the airport there are various connections into the city such as an 89 number bus that provides you with service every 15 minutes towards Plaza de Colon. You can also take another bus whose number is 101 that takes you to the Canillejas station.
You can even opt for other means of commuting such as the taxi which takes you approximately 20 to 40 minutes depending on the traffic. You can also avail the metro which can be accessed directly from the airport.
You can get answers to all your queries including a map of the metro system at the Metro Information Stand. This service is uninterrupted and lasts for 12 minutes. If you want you can even rent a car from the various companies at your beck and call such as Budget, Herz, Europcar, Nacional and others.
If you want to enter Madrid by road then you can access the route from France and either take the express highway, the coastal route or the E-15. You can also board a train that will take you through the scenic landscapes of France and Spain. Within the city limits you can take the easiest mode of transport- the metro which connects 161 stations.
There are also bus services but their schedules are according to the time and the areas that they ply on. You can also use the train services or the taxis that are white in color with a red diagonal stripe and a city shield on doors. These are very convenient but the meter ticks relentlessly. Another fun way to explore this city is by renting a pair of roller blades but you could face some difficulties with the traffic congestions.
